Some information about RSV has been correlated by our GP Registrar, Dr Khin Sandy Tun to give you more information about the vaccine.
- RSV is one of the common viruses that cause coughs and colds in winter.
- For a small number of people who are at risk of more severe respiratory disease, RSV infection might cause pneumonia or even death.
- RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis in infants.
- From 1st September 2024, the RSV vaccine should be offered to:
- All pregnant women from 28th week of gestations
- Adults turning 75 years old
- The vaccine will also be offered to those who are already aged 75 to the day before they turn 80 as part of a catch up programme.
- Anyone who was 79 when the catch-up programme started can have the vaccine up to 31 August 2025 even if they have already turned 80.
